Saginaw Valley State University’s rally fell short, dropping the Cardinals to 1-3 after a 35-28 loss Saturday to New Haven (Connecticut).
SVSU had an opportunity to tie the game after senior Christian Boivin intercepted a pass and returned it to New Haven 26-yard line. But the Cardinals were stopped on the 6-yard line on fourth-and-2 with 3:21 remaining and didn’t get the ball back until just 25 seconds remained in the game.
New Haven led 35-7 in the second quarter with AJ Duffy throwing for four touchdowns and Zaon Laney adding a 2-yard TD run. SVSU trailed 35-14 going into halftime after Mason McKenzie scored on a 28-yard run and hit Terrence Brown Jr. for an 18-yard TD with 27 seconds remaining in the first half.
