Columnist Ginnie Graham and I recently met with a group of women who wanted some advice on writing.

After spending hours with the newsroom staff of The Warrior Standard — the national winner for new prison publication — we can’t wait to go again.

Since 2014, Poetic Justice has offered restorative writing and arts programs to individuals who are incarcerated in women’s prisons and jails in Oklahoma.

In 2024, the group partnered with the nonprofit Prison Journalism Project to launch community newspapers at both women’s prisons in the state: The Warrior Standard and The Mabel Bassett Balance .
