John Stapleton, the 79 year old broadcaster who had been battling Parkinson's disease complicated by pneumonia, passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, according to his agent.

Stapleton, known for his work on programmes such as the BBC's Watchdog and GMTV's News Hour, died in hospital on Sunday morning.

His agent, Jackie Gill, stated: "John had Parkinson's disease, which was complicated by pneumonia.

"His son Nick and daughter-in-law Lisa have been constantly at his side and John died peacefully in hospital this morning."
