As ANCHOR rebates start making their way into homeowners bank accounts across the state, might I offer a humble suggestion?

Let’s just cut out the middle man — in this case us taxpayers — and send the bulk of the rebates directly to the power companies.

I’m sure there’s some giant financial institution that benefits from all those transaction fees that occur when ones and zeros shuffle around aimlessly, but I’m not one of them. Let them make up the difference by pulling another phantom fee out of their vault.

Why do I have to provide short-term housing for cash that already has a predetermined destination? It seems cruel to let us keep the money for a few days before it goes off to fulfill its destiny of keeping the lights on.
