When Mizzou joined the Southeastern Conference in July 2012, it left behind relationships in the Big 12 that’d been forged over, in some cases, a full century.
Like anyone moving anywhere new, the Tigers entered the SEC without many friends. Oftentimes, friendships form when people find something in common with one another. In South Carolina, Mizzou found an immediate friend for an obvious reason.
“There aren’t a lot of times when you see two cities in the same league with the same town name,” Columbia, South Carolina, mayor Daniel Rickenmann said in an interview Thursday.
In fact, it’s the only time. Columbia is one of four cities and towns in the U.S. whose names are shared between two FBS schools. But unlike the other three shared city/town names, Mizzou and South Carolina are in the
