BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti turned back the clock on Saturday night as he weighed a pivotal decision that ultimately opened the door to a 63-10 blowout win over Illinois.

Cignetti opted to punt with IU facing a fourth-and-one at midfield midway through the first quarter, but he got a chance to reconsider the move after Illinois burned a timeout to avoid a flag for having too many men on the field.

“I was a little torn about what to do,” Cignetti said.

Cignetti told reporters after the game he had a sense of “déjà vu” on the sidelines to a moment earlier in his head coaching career.

The matchup he thought back to was IUP’s 2016 regular-season finale against Bloomsburg. The teams traded timeouts in the second quarter with IUP facing a fourth-and-one at Blooms
