TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The National Hurricane Center said it expects Tropical Storm Gabrielle to develop into a hurricane on Sunday before it takes a turn back toward the open ocean.
As of 5 a.m. on Sunday, the storm was around 455 miles southeast of Bermuda and moving northwest at 9 mph.
With maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, the storm has some more strengthening to do before it reaches Category 1 status, which is defined by winds of at least 74 mph. NHC predicts it will reach hurricane status sometime on Sunday, while it continues to move toward the north-northwest.
On Monday, Gabrielle is expected to gradually turn north before picking up speed on Tuesday and twisting more toward the east-northeast and back to the open Atlantic. It's expected to move past Bermuda on Monday and will li
