Rory McIlroy might’ve started the trash-talking for the 2025 Ryder Cup two years ago when — in the immediate aftermath of Team Europe’s Rome win — he said, “one of the biggest accomplishments in golf right now is winning an away Ryder Cup, and that’s what we’re going to do at Bethpage.”

And he hasn’t lost any of that chirping fuel in the lead-up to the showdown at Bethpage Black next weekend.

This time, McIlroy took a jab at rival Bryson DeChambeau, who earlier in the summer said that he was looking forward to talking trash to McIlroy.

“I think the only way he gets attention is by mentioning other people,” McIlroy told the Guardian in an interview published Saturday . “That is basically what I think of that. To get attention he will mention me or Scottie [Scheffler] or others.” 3
