Two people are dead after a fiery, early morning head-on crash Sunday in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 2:53 a.m. on State Road 11 north of Daugharty Road on the stretch of highway north of DeLand and east of DeLeon Springs, according to an FHP report. An unidentified driver of a 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup truck was traveling southbound on S.R. 11 and for unknown reasons veered into the northbound lanes.

The truck struck a 2013 Nissan Altima driven by an 18-year-old DeLeon Springs man causing the Silverado to overturn on its right side and become engulfed in flames, the report stated.

Both drivers were pronounced dead on the scene. FHP is awaiting a positive identification from the medical examiner’s office for the driver of the truck.
