Servers in France's capital race through the streets, showing off their skills balancing a tray with a croissant, a coffee cup and a glass of water, without spilling it.

The race was revived last year after a 13-year hiatus as part of Paris’ efforts to bask in the Olympic spotlight and put its best foot forward for its first Summer Games in 100 years.

Sonia Bennouioua, who won second place in the women's category, turned to the hospitality industry after a stint in real estate.

"I find it just amazing. First of all, as a woman working as a server in a brasserie, being able to do a job that is physically and mentally demanding, a service job where you have to earn respect from men who often make inappropriate comments," she told The Associated Press.

"It is an honor for us to share our food with them (customers). And, even more so at the counter, having our regulars and chatting with our loyal customers who have been with us for so many years and who entrust us with their lives".
