WESTWEGO, La. —
The Westbank Heritage Festival returned for its ninth year, bringing families together from Avondale to Terrytown.
"This is the go-to event on the West Bank,” said Councilman Byron Lee. Advertisement
Hundreds of people packed the festival, celebrating community and culture.
Organizers say it started to give Westbank restaurants their chance to be a part of a festival.
"Our festival began because we wanted to give our businesses an opportunity to put their product in the stream of commerce; these vendors otherwise would not have that opportunity,” said Sharlayne Jackson Prevest.
Parish leaders say the festival has been a staple event on the West Bank for nearly a decade.
“It's an example of what you can do, focus on doing positive things in the community,” said Lee.
