The owners of Serendib, a Sri Lankan restaurant in downtown Ellsworth, announced Sunday that they will close on Dec. 20.
Sanjeeva and Menemsha Abeyasekera said in a Facebook post that the decision to close their State Street eatery was made with “mixed emotions.”
“Introducing Sri Lankan cuisine to the Down East region of Maine has been a pure joy and the reception from the community has been incredible,” they wrote. “It is hard to put into words the love we have for all of you, but it is time for new adventures.”
They opened the restaurant Oct. 8, 2015, “as a culinary adventure,” they said, and thanked customers “from the bottom of our hearts for a memorable 10 years.”
In 2016, Serendib earned a spot on the list of the BDN’s picks for best Maine food .
The owners said they pla
