A man has been arrested after a police officer was assaulted during an immigration protest in Glasgow city centre on Saturday afternoon . ‌

Crowds gathered in Buchanan Street on September 20, with hundreds of people turning out for demonstrations supporting and opposing immigration . ‌

A gathering was arranged by controversial podcaster John Watt who called for a 'unity rally' on the steps outside the Buchanan Galleries shopping centre. ‌

However, Watt's supporters were met with backlash as anti-racism groups turned up.

The two sides were separated by a blockade of police officers and metal railings. The group Stand Up to Racism claimed their numbers in attendance exceeded those attending the 'unity rally'.
