Police investigating suspicious death of woman in central Edmonton

A 37-year-old woman has died in hospital after arriving with suspicious injuries, police say.

In a news release, Edmonton police said Downtown patrol officers conducted an investigation around 1 p.m. Saturday near 100 Avenue and 111 Street. In relation to the case, they learned that a woman had died in hospital after arriving with what appeared to be suspicious injuries.

A 39-year-old man who knew the woman has been taken into custody, the release said, though there was no mention of charges.

The Homicide Section has taken over the investigation and an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
