CLEVELAND — North Olmsted police asked drivers to avoid the area around Brookpark Road and Great Northern Boulevard Sunday afternoon as crews responded to a fire at a high-rise apartment complex that displaced dozens of families from their homes.
According to a Facebook post from the North Olmsted Police Department just before 2:30 p.m., the eastbound lanes of Brookpark Road were shut down at Great Northern Boulevard around the Westbury Apartments, located at 25151 Brookpark Road.
Fire officials say the fire broke out around 1:45 p.m. on the fifth floor of the building. Six people were checked out for injuries at the scene, with three people — two residents and a North Olmsted police officer — taken to a hospital for further evaluations.
