MINNEAPOLIS — Carson Wentz's homecoming was a success, even if he played a distant second fiddle to defensive teammate Isaiah Rodgers.
The former North Dakota State quarterback, signed just before the season as a backup to starter J.J. McCarthy, helped the Minnesota Vikings to a victory Sunday in his first start with the team.
The Vikings beat the Cincinnati Bengals 48-10 at raucous U.S. Bank Stadium. Wentz went 14 of 20 passing for 173 yards and two touchdowns filling for McCarthy, who missed the game with a high ankle sprain suffered last week.
Wentz's day ended with 11:03 remaining in the fourth quarter, when he was replaced by rookie Max Brosmer because the Vikings had such a big lead.
