HARTFORD, Conn. — Thousands of people gathered in Hartford Sunday for the 61st annual Puerto Rican Day Parade.

People at the event celebrated the vibrant culture, traditions and food. Organizers anticipated nearly 3,000 marching participants in what is the largest parade in both Hartford and the region.

Patricia Lawli, who traveled to Hartford from Waterbury, was among those who came out to support the Puerto Rican community.

"I was born in Puerto Rico, but my family is Chinese,” Lawli said. “I represent the culture. I'm honored to be a part of the Puerto Rican culture and honored to be a part of the Puerto Rican festivals."

Small print business owner Jahayra Harrell traveled from New Jersey and came back home to enjoy the festival.
