Hunter rescued after injury on Capitol Creek Trail

A 54-year-old hunter was rescued Friday morning after breaking his ankle about 4 miles up the Capitol Creek Trail in Pitkin County.

The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office said Mountain Rescue Aspen members responded at 11:30 a.m. and coordinated with Flight For Life Colorado for an airlift due to rugged terrain. The hunter was flown out just after noon and is reported in stable condition.

“The injured subject, whose identity is being withheld, was unable to descend the trail under their own power due to the extent of their injuries,” said a Pitkin Alert issued Saturday.
