Tavarez, a right-handed hurler from the Dominican Republic, played 17 seasons in the Majors. He came up with Cleveland in 1993 and played for 11 teams. His four years (1993-96) with Cleveland were his longest stint with any team. He made his debut in August 1993, just five months after the horrific boat accident that claimed the lives of fellow pitchers Tim Crews and Steve Olin. Primarily a reliever, he went 88-82 in his career.
