LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) - A harmful algae bloom (HAB) has been detected at Wamplers Lake in Lenawee County.
On September 17, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) observed a possible HAB along the shoreline of the public swimming beach at Hayes State Park.
Based on the appearance of the algae, the DNR determined that the bloom may be harmful and immediately posted signs at the beach to inform beachgoers of the potential risk.
HABs can pose health risks to both people and animals. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid contact with water that appears discolored, has surface scum, or emits a foul odor.
Clear areas of the water may be safe for recreational use; however, individuals should avoid any areas where the bloom is visible.
