Gold Coast star Matt Rowell has claimed the 2025 Brownlow Medal with three games to spare over Collingwood’s Nick Daicos.

Daicos was the favourite ahead of the count but was upstaged by an incredible season from Rowell that saw the Suns earn a maiden finals berth and victory.

The Suns midfielder collated an incredible 39 votes, so many he had confirmed the win by round 22 as Daicos missed the votes in a loss to Hawthorn.

Rowell started the year on fire, polling top votes in his first four games and became the first player to collect 15 of a possible 18 votes after round seven.

A string of losses and the bye halted the midfielder’s progress between rounds 10 and 14 with Fremantle midfielder Andrew Brayshaw and Geelong star Bailey Smith moving within a vote of the Sun.
