MARION, Ala. ( WSFA ) - District Attorney for the 4th Circuit of Alabama Robert Turner, Jr. says an inmate that escaped from the Perry County Jail on Sunday is back in custody.
Authorities on Monday morning said Darren Brooks, Jr. surrendered to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Brooks, also known by the alias “Dog Face” was indicted on capital murder charges in connection to the 2023 killing of Christopher Lewis during a robbery incident in Marion. He escaped from the Perry County Jail around 12:42 a.m. Sunday.
Officials say Brooks will face second-degree escape charges in addition to his current pending charges.
DA Turner said family members helped “convince their loved one to turn himself in.”
