A devastated couple have been prohibited from displaying flower pots on their balcony after the council declared them a fire risk.

Julie and Derek Lee invest hundreds of pounds annually carefully adorning the exterior of their first-floor flat with hanging baskets and greenery.

The pair have maintained their botanical displays outside their residence in Maryland Court, Stapleford, Notts. , for two decades.

Broxtowe Borough Council has now instructed the couple to clear away the containers and blooms, referencing health and safety concerns.

They were sent correspondence on September 15 providing them merely 48 hours to dispose of their treasured possessions from their two-bedroom leasehold property.
