A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Berkeley, California, area early Monday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey .

The quake, which hit at 2:56 a.m., was centered two miles from Berkeley and occurred on the Hayward fault, the USGS said.

No injuries or damage were immediately reported.

The quake was downgraded to 4.3 from a preliminary 4.6. A 2.6 magnitude aftershock was recorded at 8:05 a.m., the USGS said.

BART has issued the following guidance via their website: "Trains are running at reduced speeds while we complete safety track inspections. Please expect residual delays of up to 20 minutes systemwide."
