A Burlington police officer shot someone Sunday night as part a prolonged standoff on Riverside Avenue, according to the Vermont State Police.
State police said the person was in custody and "receiving medical care for sustained injuries," according to a press release. A dispatcher at the Williston barracks confirmed that the officer shot the person.
The city officer, who wasn't identified in the announcement Monday, was put on paid administrative leave and is being investigated by state authorities. Investigators plan to release the officer's name after 24 hours, according to the release.
