The former chief of the Teaneck Police Department died last week at his home in Bergen County, officials said.

Glenn O’Reilly, 55, served with the department for more than 31 years before retiring two years ago, according to his obituary.

He was found dead on Wednesday at his home in Northvale, officials said.

“Chief O’Reilly was a fierce defender of his residents, and we will miss his compassion that he had towards the job and the township,” Teaneck Mayor Mark Schwartz said in a statement.

O’Reilly was hired as a Teaneck police officer in 1991 and rose through the ranks to become chief in March 2017.

He retired on Jan. 1, 2023, after 31 and a half years of public service, officials said.
