Quarterback Baker Mayfield got his revenge Sunday, leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 29-27 victory over the Jets while facing the person who cut him two years ago.
Mayfield completed 65.5% of his passes (19 of 29) for 233 yards and a touchdown, accomplishing it without one of his top weapons in the passing game, wide receiver Mike Evans, who left the game with a hamstring injury.
During his postgame news conference, Mayfield mentioned Jets defensive coordinator Steve Wilks was the person who had him released when he had his brief stint with the Carolina Panthers. Mayfield remembered that decision and was motivated to perform well against the Jets defense.
