GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The artwork commemorating Grand Rapids' 175th anniversary was unveiled Friday as ArtPrize got underway.
The 175th Anniversary Commemorative Poster Competition had dozens of local artists submitting their unique take on an anniversary poster. Two finalists were chosen by the City's Art Advisory Committee in August.
Those two posters—"Blueprint" by Steve Wammack and "Primary Grand Rapids" by Sarah Aldrich—were then put to a public vote.
With 68% of the vote, "Blueprint" took home the win.
The poster shows sketches of one-of-a-kind architecture around Grand Rapids—like the Frederik Meijer Gardens greenhouse, the Grand Rapids Public Museum and more. Wammack said the theme represents the city's growth.
