TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — Last week, Tarrant County failed to pass a new tax rate because the commissioners' court lacked a quorum. Rumors swirled that the Democrats on the court were intentionally breaking quorum to delay the vote.

Today, one of two Democratic commissioners attended the meeting, enough to establish a quorum . Roderick Miles Jr., who represents Precinct 1, clarified that he missed last week's meeting due to an illness and did not intentionally break quorum. The other Democrat, Precinct 2 commissioner Alisa Simmons, said she would skip Monday's meeting to attend a funeral in California, but she would intentionally break quorum if she were in town.

With a quorum established, the county approved a new lower rate without the support of Democratic commissioners.
