HOUSEHOLDS, businesses and community groups across the region are turning to home batteries in growing numbers, embracing a federal program designed to cut power bills and curb emissions.

More than 220 batteries have been installed across the Bellarine, Surf Coast and Geelong region through the government’s Cheaper Home Batteries program.

The $2.3 billion program, which began on July 1, aims to cut the cost of installing a small-scale battery system by 30 per cent.

Subsidies are available for batteries sized up to 100kWh, with the discount saving households, on average, $4,000 on the cost of installation.
