SEATTLE — It is one of the few horticultural experiences that could be more for your nose than your eyes, and it’s on display now at the Amazon Spheres in Seattle.
Morticia, the corpse flower , is blooming for the second time since 2018.
Corpse flowers have the largest unbranched flowering structure in the world and can grow to 9 feet tall – although Morticia is only 5-foot-6. Her corm, which is a bulb-like structure that stores energy, weighs 102 pounds.
Blooms are rare and notable for their pungent scent of rotting flesh. These flowers only bloom every five to seven years, and the bloom is short-lived, lasting for just 48 hours.
