PITTSBURGH —

Police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a bus in Pittsburgh on Monday afternoon.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit said the crash happened at about 12:15 p.m. near Rhine and Buente streets in the city's Spring Hill neighborhood. Advertisement

"The woman was unresponsive when paramedics arrived. She was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m.," PRT said in its statement.

The name of the 50-year-old woman who was killed has not been released.

One woman who lived nearby said she heard two loud booms before walking outside.
