The CFL revved up social media with promises of a major announcement Monday morning. And while it wasn’t the switch to four downs that some were predicting, games will have a new look over the next two seasons.

The league is shortening the field from 110 yards to 100, shortening the end zone from 20 yards to 15 and moving the goalposts to the back of the end zone. It’s also changing the play clock and modifying the rouge single point.

The changes begin next season and continue in 2027.

CFL commissioner Stewart Johnston said the league governors voted unanimously for the moves. He tagged Monday as a “watershed moment,” and talked about “landmark changes.”
