NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Boris Johnson, who was Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016 and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2019 to 2022, will be in New Haven for a speaking engagement at Yale with the Buckley Institute.

Johnson will be in New Haven at 7 p.m. on Oct. 9 for a talk titled, "The U.S. & U.K.: A Special Alliance that Must Work Together to Save the West." Registration is required but will not guarantee a seat at the event, according to the Buckley Institute.

Johnson was first elected to the British Parliament in 2001 before being elected Mayor of London in 2008 and 2012. He later became the leader of the U.K.'s Conservative Party and Prime Minister in 2019, overseeing the U.K. departure from the European Union in 2020.
