The start of the season for the Kansas City Chiefs has been frustrating for everyone, especially tight end Travis Kelce.
During the Sunday Night Football game against the New York Giants, the cameras panned to the sideline to show Kelce and head coach Andy Reid getting into a pretty heated exchange, with Reid putting his shoulder into Kelce while doing so.
For the first time since 2014, the Chiefs have started the season 0-2. On Sunday night, they were winning when the exchange took place, but were still not able to open up the offense like Kansas City is used to. When asked about the incident, the Chiefs head coach would say, “I love Travis’ passion, man,” Reid told reporters. “I’m OK with that. We didn’t have enough of it in the second quarter. It wasn’t where we needed it to be, so, within reason, he knows when to back off the pedal and knows when to push it, too.
Reid would also say, “That’s the part I love about him. The guy is all-in. Sometimes, I have to be the policeman. He’s an emotional guy.” The moment between the two brought similarities to when it happened during last year's Super Bowl, when Kelce almost knocked down Andy Reid on the sidelines. It has been a frustrating year in Kansas City, as it seems opposing NFL defenses have been able to game-plan for the Chiefs unorthodox offense.
On the season, Kelce has only been targeted 17 times in the first three games, while catching 10 of those for only 1 touchdown. These stats may seem reasonable to some, but even though Kelce is 35 years old, his expectations for himself and Kansas City are always higher.
