FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Former Fresno County Sheriff Steve Magarian passed away on Monday following a battle with cancer, according to an announcement by the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.
Current Sheriff John Zanoni described Steve Magarian as "a great man" who cared for his agency and his family.
His life may have ended, but his legacy here at the Fresno County Sheriff's Office will be forever remembered by all of us.
Sheriff Steve Magarian was born in Fresno in 1942 and graduated from Roosevelt High School before starting his law enforcement career in 1966 with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office. He became Fresno County's 23rd sheriff in 1986 and served in that position until 1999.
