A high school football game in Kansas was suspended after benches cleared in an ugly scene on Friday.

With more than 13 minutes left on the clock, the game descended into bedlam after players got involved in a wild brawl in which helmets were swung. While the fight led to an early stoppage, the game hasn’t officially ended; the Kansas State High School Activities Association will decide how to proceed.

The game involved Highland Park and Schlagle, and when it was cut short, the score was 36-18 in favor of the former.

The schools are 55 miles apart and are not considered rivals. However, tension can run high when one of the teams starts losing the contest.
