PHOENIX — A 24-year-old suspect has been arrested by Phoenix police for an alleged sexual assault that left a woman hospitalized with severe injuries.

Luis Tapia allegedly admitted to hitting and kicking a woman repeatedly during an assault reported on Aug. 14 near 44th and Oak streets, court records show.

Officers found the woman on the ground, covered in blood and wearing only a shirt. She was taken to the hospital, where she was treated in the ICU for various abrasions and fractures.

After reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses, Phoenix police identified Tapia as a possible suspect and tracked him down to conduct an interview.

Court records state the suspect allegedly acknowledged attacking the woman and taking off her clothes as she said "no" multiple times.
