MINNEAPOLIS — The family of 12-year-old Sophia Forchas says she is making steady progress and is preparing to transition from acute care to an inpatient rehabilitation program this week as she continues to recover after being shot in the mass shooting at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis.
The family released a statement on Monday saying Sophia is showing signs of neurological recovery, and while she still has a long journey ahead, they say doctors remain cautiously optimistic.
The full statement reads:
Sophia suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of her head, and the bullet was still lodged in her brain. Surgeons removed the left half of her skull to give her brain the room it needed to swell.
