MUSKEGON, Mich. — It’s not every day that someone lives to 100 years old.

It’s even more rare when someone reaches 104.

But one West Michigan man is hitting that milestone with a smile.

13 ON YOUR SIDE sat down with Francis Veldman, who goes by the name Gerrit.

“It's amazing what, what happens when, when you get to this age,” said Veldman.

He said he’s experienced a lot in his lifetime, from his time being a captain during World War II to other jobs in his community and even starting a family.

He said he wouldn’t change one thing that happened in the past 104 years he’s lived.

“Things are put before you for a reason, apparently, and you have to live accordingly,” said Veldman.
