WALTHALL COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) - Six months after two powerful tornadoes tore through Walthall County, the recovery process is far from over.
Debris has been cleared from roadsides, but damage to infrastructure remains a major issue. Officials said more than 30 county roads were damaged. The county is still waiting on FEMA reimbursement for cleanup costs.
“FEMA projects our damage at $8.4 million for debris, pickup damage to county roads. We had probably 30 county roads that were damaged throughout our county in District 4. The northern part of the county was hit the worst. They have 20-something roads that were affected by the storm, and we're working with FEMA now to try to recover some of that money to repair those roads," said Walthall County Supervisor Roger Ginn, District 1.
