Opponents of a controversial plan to enable up to 35,000 new homes over 15 years in a popular inner city Sydney region have clashed with councillors during a fiery public debate interjected by claims of a “conspiracy” and doxing.

More than 100 people turned out on Monday night for the Inner West Council's public forum into its Fairer Future Plan, the Labor-led council’s alternative to the state government’s mid-rise and transport-oriented programs.

At the outset of the forum, Mayor Darcy Byrne said the 80 planned speakers were, he believed, the most that any NSW council had ever chosen to hear from, but regularly faced interjections from a disgruntled, disagreeing crowd.
