An officer is in serious condition after being stabbed while responding to a domestic violence call, and an police-action shooting followed, Fort Wayne police said today.
Police were responding to a domestic violence incident shortly before 6 p.m. in the 2100 block of St. Marys Avenue northwest of downtown Fort Wayne. Investigators' vehicles surrounded North Highlands apartments, which are near the intersection of West State and Sherman boulevards.
Someone attacked the officer and stabbed him, police said. An officer fired a gun and struck an individual. Sgt. John Nichter, public information officer, said he could not confirm whether the officer who fired a gun was stabbed or if the individual struck was a suspect.
Nichter said more details, including the condition of the person shot, w
