A Burlington County woman convicted of selling a fatal dose of heroin will serve half of her original prison sentence following a successful appeal.

A judge in 2022 originally sentenced Shannon McGuigan to 12 years in prison on the charge of strict liability for the May 2017 death of a 26-year-old woman in Pemberton Township.

McGuigan, also of Pemberton, will now serve six years as part of a deal with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, her lawyer Jason Ferguson said Monday.

A state appeals returned the case to the trial court last year after finding issues with the police investigation, and a trial expert.

Like McGuigan’s original sentence, she will have to serve 85% of the time under the state’s No Early Release Act, known as NERA. Her original parole eligibility date was
