VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The federal government is moving to shut down the Princess Anne Health and Rehabilitation Center following repeated complaints and regulatory violations, sparking mixed reactions from the local community.
“I know you’re dealing with the government and they have their high standards,” said one resident who asked to remain anonymous. “But these folks should’ve had high standards also.”
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency responsible for overseeing nursing homes, announced in August that it was terminating the facility’s provider agreement.
In its decision, CMS cited the center’s “failure to meet Medicare’s basic health and safety requirements.”
Medicare and Medicaid funding typically make up the bulk of revenue for nursing homes.
