TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A crisis is brewing within the Tuscaloosa City School District’s transportation division.

The district is facing a major shortage of bus drivers. However, leaders are moving aggressively to try and fix that; the attempt to remedy the shortage starts this week.

According to school district leaders, the Tuscaloosa City School District is 21 drivers short, and that shortage is causing issues already in the new school year.

The shortage of city school bus drivers has rolled to a critical stage.

It’s an emergency no matter how you slice it, according to Michael Tolliver, the transportation coordinator for the Tuscaloosa City School District.

“We are actively looking for more drivers,” said Tolliver.
