Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the fattest bear of all? That’s for people around the world to figure out. Katmai National Park and Preserve ’s biggest event of the year is about to begin.

The annual Fat Bear Week begins September 23 and runs through September 30, with plenty of brown bear drama in between. Round one match-ups have just been announced, and the Bear Cams are full of excitement.

This year marks 10 years since Fat Bear Week began, and with each passing season, the event brings in more and more fans. With several previous winners already stationed at the river, 2025 could be the most exciting Fat Bear Week yet.

What Is Fat Bear Week?

Fat Bear Week is the wildlife event of the year. Not to be overdramatic, but it’s basically March Madness for Alaskan brown bears.
