OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - State Auditor Rob Sand, who’s also running for Governor in 2026 as a Democrat, stopped in Mahaska, Davis and Wapello Counties.
People asked him questions about Iowa’s education system, unemployment and local authority.
This school year is the first that all students can receive public funding to play for private education regardless of family income.
“The voucher system for the schools has been detrimental to our public school’s system. That money is going outside of this state. Most of these private schools are ran by organizations outside the state,” said a resident.
Sand said schools that receive voucher money should have to follow the same rules as public schools do regarding budgeting.
