SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

As Rosh Hashanah begins Monday night, Congregation B'nai Israel in Sacramento is collaborating with law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of its members during the Jewish New Year celebrations.

"Security is always of the utmost importance to our congregation," said Rabbi Mona Alfi of B'nai Israel. "Back in 1999, we were the victim of a hate crime by two white supremacists. So, since 1999, that has been something that's always on the top of our list. Of course, it's heightened in these last few years, as antisemitism has been on the rise and as attacks on Jewish institutions and individuals have increased."
