ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria is proposing a property tax levy of $10.59 million for 2026 – an 8% increase from this year’s levy of $9.8 million.

The Alexandria City Council approved the preliminary levy at its Monday, Sept. 22 meeting. The amount can be reduced or adjusted before the council takes final action but it can’t be increased, according to state law.

The council also approved a 2026 preliminary budget of $13.8 million — a 3.8% increase from the 2025 budget of $13.3 million.

Before voting, the council held a hearing to allow comments but no one from the public spoke.
